The topic every business forgets: how to buy from you
Try this: look at your last thirty posts and find one that explains, start to finish, how a person places an order. Almost nobody has one.
It feels obvious because you do it every day
To you, ordering is sending a message, agreeing and paying. To someone who never bought from you, each of those steps carries a doubt: pay before or after? How far in advance? Is a deposit needed? What if I want to change something?
Every unanswered doubt is a reason to postpone. And postponing, almost always, means not buying.
What the post needs to say
Five things, in the order they happen.
- Where to start, and what to send in the first message.
- How much notice is needed.
- How and when payment happens, and whether there is a deposit.
- How delivery or pickup works.
- What can still change afterwards, and until when.
It is the most reusable post you have
Once published, it becomes your ready-made answer. Someone asks in the DMs and you send the link, instead of typing it all out for the fortieth time.
It is worth pinning to the top of your profile and repeating every three months, because half the people following you today were not there last time.
Write down the rules you already keep in your head
Minimum notice, minimum order, what you do not do, how late cancellation is allowed. You have already decided all of it, you just never wrote it anywhere. Writing it saves the awkward conversation of saying no case by case.
And it has a good side effect: whoever reads it and orders anyway has already agreed to your terms.
It is the kind of post that is always left for next week. In a laid-out month, it has a date.
