A customer testimonial that does not look staged

You have a folder full of screenshots saying "loved it!!" and "it arrived gorgeous!!". You publish and nothing happens. Not because they are fake: because they say nothing that helps someone still deciding.

Generic praise answers no doubt at all

Someone undecided has a specific fear: arriving late, not fitting, not looking like the photo, costing more in the end. "Loved it" touches none of those fears.

Whereas "I was afraid it would not arrive in time because I ordered last minute, and it came the day before" answers a real fear, and that is what makes someone decide.

How to ask so it comes with detail

Nobody writes a good testimonial if you ask "what did you think?". Ask something else.

  • "What made you hesitate before ordering?"
  • "What surprised you?"
  • "What would you say to someone who is unsure?"
  • "Was it as you imagined, or different?"

The initial doubt is the most valuable part

A testimonial that starts with "I thought it was expensive at first" and ends with "in the end it was worth it, because it lasted twice as long" does more for your sales than ten compliments. It says the objection exists, is normal, and has an answer.

So do not cut the negative part when publishing. It is what makes the rest sound true.

When to ask

A few days after delivery, when they have used it and still remember. The same day is too early; a month later is too late and the reply comes lukewarm.

And ask one person at a time, by message, not in a post asking for testimonials. Group requests have a response rate near zero.

One detailed testimonial a month is enough. Having that slot marked in the calendar is what stops six months going by without any.
