How to ask for a review without making it awkward

You delivered, the customer liked it, thanked you, and the conversation ended. That was the one moment they were willing to write something about you, and it passed.

Why nobody asks

Because it feels like asking a favour after already being paid. It is the tipping feeling. But on the other side the feeling is different: whoever liked it usually likes saying so.

The discomfort is yours, not the customer's. Recognising that already solves half of it.

The moment and the sentence

Two or three days after delivery, when they have used it and still remember. And a sentence that offers an easy way out.

  • "Glad you liked it. If you have a moment, would you leave a review? It really helps people who are unsure."
  • Send the direct link. A request without a link gets half the replies.
  • Ask once. If they do not reply, let it go.
  • Never ask for a good review. Ask for a review.

The mistake is turning it into a demand

A reminder the next day, an insisting message, or a discount conditional on the review turn something voluntary into a transaction. And bought reviews show, both to the platform and to whoever reads them.

One honest three-star review with a specific comment is worth more than ten five-star ones written out of obligation.

And if a bad review arrives

Reply publicly, without arguing the facts line by line, and say what you will do. People who read reviews also read the replies, and a calm reply is worth more than the lost star.

A profile with nothing but five stars breeds suspicion. One or two average reviews, well answered, make the rest look genuine.

Asking for reviews is a task always left for later. It is worth putting it in the month as if it were a post.
