Saves and shares are worth more than likes
Three gestures, three different costs to the person doing them, and three completely different pieces of information for whoever published.
Saving means "I will need this"
Nobody saves a pretty post. People save what will be useful later: a measurement, a lead time, a list, an explanation they will need when deciding.
That is why saves are the closest signal to "this is useful", and useful is what makes someone return to your profile on their own.
Sharing means "I stand by this"
Whoever sends a post to someone is risking their own image: if it is bad, the sender looks bad. It is the most expensive of the three gestures, and therefore the rarest.
It is also the only one that brings new people without depending on the algorithm. A share is a recommendation, and a recommendation converts better than any reach.
Which post produces each
They are different kinds of content, and it is worth writing for one on purpose.
- Saves: lists, step-by-steps, size tables, lead times, what to ask before hiring.
- Shares: what confirms an opinion they already had, or solves a friend's problem.
- Likes: almost anything. Which is why they differentiate nothing.
One of each per month already changes the month
Not every post needs to be saveable. One post a month built to be saved and one built to be sent are usually the two best performers of the entire month.
And both keep paying off later: a saved post is revisited weeks afterwards, when the person finally decides.
Reserving a slot in the month for the post people save is a calendar decision, not an inspiration one.
