Camera shy: how to post without showing your face

Every course says people who show their face sell more. That is true on average, and an average is not an order. Plenty of people built good businesses without ever appearing.

What a face solves, and what solves it just as well

A face creates familiarity: people feel they know someone, and buy more easily from someone they know. But familiarity is also built with voice, with hands and with the way you write.

A caption written the way you speak builds more closeness than a video where you appear tense reading a script.

The ladder, one rung at a time

If one day you want to, the path has rungs. None of them obliges the next.

  • Hands only, no sound.
  • Hands with the real sound of the work.
  • Hands with your voice over the top, recorded afterwards.
  • A quick talking story, which vanishes in twenty-four hours.
  • A feed video, if and when it makes sense.

The discomfort fades, and the audience is not who you imagine

Almost everyone hates their own recorded voice and face. It does not disappear entirely, but it fades a lot after a few goes.

And the fear is usually about people who already know you, not strangers. Whoever follows you for cake wants to see cake, and is not marking your diction.

If you never want to, it is settled

It is not worth forcing. An uncomfortable video transmits discomfort, and that pushes people away more than an absent face. The business that lasts is the one you can keep up for years.

Choosing not to appear is a legitimate decision, and the only care needed is compensating with voice in the writing, so the account does not turn anonymous.

The voice in the writing is the part that stays yours, and it is exactly what takes a minute per post to adjust.
