A content calendar for a small business: the minimum that works

You downloaded an editorial calendar template, opened it, saw thirty columns (goal, persona, funnel stage, pillar, CTA, hashtag, format, KPI) and closed it. Everyone closes it.

Big templates are built for agencies, not for you

Those templates come from agencies, where five people work on the same file and every column exists so one of them does not step on another. You are one person. Half those columns are paperwork for nobody.

And paperwork has a hidden cost: every extra field is one more reason not to fill it in today. The calendar that works is the one you are still using in March.

The four things that need to be in there

A useful content calendar answers four questions and stops there.

  • What day it goes out. A date, not "next week".
  • Which network. If you post on two, the same text rarely works on both.
  • Which theme it belongs to. That is what stops three behind-the-scenes in a row and a whole month without mentioning price.
  • The text. Written out, not "idea: talk about delivery time". An idea is not a post; text is.

The text is the part that decides

Most calendars die because they only hold ideas. The day arrives, you look at "talk about delivery time" and you still have to write the post, which is exactly the part you postponed when you built the calendar.

A calendar with the text ready is a different thing. On the day you read it, change a word, and publish. Or you do not publish, and nothing is lost.

A closed month, not a loose week

Planning by the week feels lighter and is more work: four sittings a month instead of one, and none of them sees the whole month.

Closing the month in one go, you see the balance: how many posts per theme, where the gap is, whether price was ever mentioned. By the week, that gap only shows up once it has already passed.

ReadyMonth holds those four things and writes the fourth for you. The month arrives laid out, with day, network, theme and text, and you decide what stays.
