A pretty feed does not sell: what to fix before the visuals
You opened Canva, picked three colours, tried four fonts and spent the whole afternoon on it. By the end of the day the feed looks great and there is still no new post. Everyone does this. It is the pleasant part.
Why aesthetics come first in everyone's head
Because it is the only part with an immediate, visible result. Picking a colour gives a sense of progress that writing a bad draft does not. The problem is nobody buys because of a colour.
Look at the accounts you follow and have bought from. Probably half of them have a messy feed. What they have is something to say, and they say it consistently.
What decides before the visuals
Three things weigh more than any palette, and none of them needs design software.
- Making it clear what you sell, in three seconds. That is your name field and bio.
- Having something to say, regularly. An ugly profile that posts every Tuesday beats a pretty one that vanished.
- The first line of the caption. That is what decides whether people read the rest, not the photo.
The visual minimum that is worth it
This is not about abandoning appearance. It is about giving it the right size. Daylight photos, no heavy filters, and the product fully visible already does it. If you want to standardise something, standardise the frame or the title font, and stop there.
Rule of thumb: if a visual decision costs more than ten minutes per post, it is eating the time that belonged to the writing.
When to sort out the visuals
When there is something to sort out. After two or three months of posting you will have dozens of posts and you will see for yourself what repeats and what clashes, and then the identity comes out of what you already made, instead of a bought template.
It is the same order as a physical shop: first you sell, then you paint the wall. People who paint first often never get to open.
