A follower is not a customer: the number worth watching

Follower count is the only number at the top of the profile, so it is the only one we look at. It is also the one that says least about the business.

It measures past reach, not intent

A follower is someone who, on some day, liked something you posted. It does not mean they need your product, live nearby, or even remember you.

That is why accounts with ten thousand followers sometimes sell less than accounts with four hundred. The four hundred are local; the ten thousand came from a video that went viral for another reason.

What to look at instead

Four numbers that say something about selling.

  • Messages a week that arrive with buying intent.
  • How many of those become an order.
  • How many customers said they came from Instagram.
  • Saves per post, which measure usefulness rather than politeness.

Always ask where they came from

One question at the end of a sale: "may I ask how you found me?". Thirty seconds, and in two months you know whether Instagram brings customers or brings an audience.

It is the only piece of data linking effort to result, and it exists in no dashboard. You have to collect it yourself.

Growing slowly with the right people

An account gaining twenty followers a month, all local and in your trade, grows more slowly and sells sooner. One gaining a thousand at once from a funny video usually loses half within three months.

That is why it is worth watching who arrives rather than how many.

The number that matters is customers, and it is measured off the platform. What ReadyMonth guarantees is that the effort does not stop halfway.
