Behind the scenes: what to show and what to keep

Everyone says to show the behind the scenes, and plenty of people take that as filming the whole day. The behind the scenes that works is narrower than that, and easier.

Behind the scenes justifies the price without mentioning price

When someone finds it expensive, it is almost always because they only saw the result. They did not see the three hours, the material you chose because it is better, or the piece you redid because it came out crooked.

Showing that is not complaining about the work: it is explaining what is inside the price. And it works better than any post defending your rates.

What is worth showing

Everything the customer does not imagine exists.

  • The choice: why this material and not the cheaper one.
  • The time: the hours that do not show up in the finished product.
  • The redo: the piece that came out wrong and went in the bin.
  • The care: the part nobody would notice if you skipped it.

What adds nothing

Breakfast, traffic, tidying the desk and the "good morning" from the bench. It is not wrong: it says nothing about your work, and it takes the slot of a post that would.

The test: if the scene does not change anyone's view about buying from you, it is a personal diary, not business behind the scenes.

The line is yours, and it is worth setting it in advance

Behind the scenes does not require showing your home, your family or your income. Deciding that calmly, once, avoids a hard decision in the middle of filming.

And it is perfectly possible to have strong behind-the-scenes content with only hands, materials and the workbench. Plenty of good accounts never showed more than that.

Behind the scenes is the easiest pillar to film and the easiest to forget. In a laid-out month it already has its slot.
